Saturday, what bliss

It’s been a helluva week, one way or another. I always enjoy Saturdays, purely because they are followed by Sunday, which for me is also a non work day. At the moment, that is so good.

Work is particularly demanding (which is a polite way of saying it is sh*t). There is lots of political posturing going on in the ranks above me, and everyone in our team is feeling the fall out. I was the innocent victim of a ’she said…he said’ spat this week that was ultimately over something trivial. But people more senior than me were making out I said something that I didn’t. They heard what the wanted to hear, went ahead and circulated something that needed permission from some high level people in my division. Then all hell let loose when it landed in their mailboxes. Lots of swearing and name calling. Not very comfortable at all. It wasn’t even something significant. But that is just one example of what is happening in out business at the moment. People in high places  are feeling nervous about their jobs and are throwing their weight around. It’s not a happy place. Ho hum.

Anyway, some better news is that we are going to Australia for Nadia’s sister’s wedding in a couple of weeks. Nadia’s dad passed away a month ago (in Australia) and it has been very hard for her. It has been hard for me too. So we have broken the bank and we are going for a couple of weeks. Nadia is only back a month after being there to be with her dad in his last days. It is making the money situation very tight, but some things are right to do, and this is one of them. It will be emotional, but I’m glad we are going.

So with all that going on, I haven’t written a creative word all week! I am trying to write a short story called ‘My mother’s ashes’, and I have made a start but I am not happy with it. I’ll persevere and see what comes out.

I so want to be doing something other than working in a large corporation. People tell me my stories are good, but I need to do something with them and get them in front of a publisher or agent! You can read a couple of them on my website. Let me know what you think!

I’m also looking for someone with a good story that I can ghost write for them – I’d love to do that! If you’ve got something interesting to tell, let me know and maybe we can work something out. Fact or fiction, I’m interested in either.

So back to Saturday! I went out this afternoon for a walk in the city centre (I live quite close so everything is within walking distance). It has been quite warm this week, and it is again today. But it had been feeling humid and just as I came out a shop to head for home (twenty minute walk) it had become very dark. Just as I looked up, a tremendous flash of lightning shot across the sky above the Castle. The thunder and rain followed swiftly and I thought about taking shelter in a shop. But you know, I haven’t got properly wet in rain for so long, I decided to keep on walking and take the shower that nature was offering (I had showered in the conventional way this morning in case you were wondering!!!). It was beautiful. I only had a shirt on and I didn’t care. I knew I would be able to get dry when I got home, and it wasn’t cold. There is something very theraputic about allowing the rain to wash your worries away. Loved it.

Sun’s trying to get out again now, so I’m off to read a book. I might tell you what it is the next time!

Have a great weekend.
